Grief is a Journey, Not a Destination
Grief touches all of us at some point. Whether you’ve lost a loved one, experienced the end of a relationship, or said goodbye to a lifelong dream, grief can leave you feeling disoriented and emotionally raw. You may experience waves of sadness, moments of anger, or even unexpected numbness. The truth is, grief doesn’t follow a straight path—it ebbs and flows. If you’ve been struggling with loss, you’re not alone. As a compassionate, experienced therapist, I’m here to support you through your grief journey. Grief counselling offers a safe, non-judgmental space where you can express your emotions, find support, and gradually rediscover a sense of peace.
Grief can result from
- death (human or companion animal),
- job loss,
- loss of home,
- relationship dissolution,
- gender transitioning,
- retirement,
- addiction recovery,
- a public tragedy,
- illness,
- injury,
- aging,
- dementia, and
- other life transitions.
Grief, our inner experience of and reaction to loss, and active mourning are necessary, healthy processes. Alternatively, unreconciled grief can lead to many different issues, including:
- lack of joy in one’s life,
- depression,
- anxiety,
- relationship conflicts,
- suicidality,
- health problems,
- work disruption,
- loss of self,
- confusion, and
- memory loss.
What Is Grief Counselling?
Grief counselling is a form of therapy designed to help individuals cope with the emotional, mental, and physical impact of loss. In our sessions, you will have space to: Express your emotions freely: Share your thoughts and feelings without fear of being judged. Develop healthy coping strategies: Learn practical tools to manage grief triggers and overwhelming emotions. Honour your loss: Find meaningful ways to remember and cherish what you’ve lost. Adjust to a new reality: Gently work toward acceptance while holding space for your memories. Whether you’re grieving the death a loved one or mourning a different kind of loss, my goal is to help you process your experience with empathy and support.
Common Myths About Grief
Grief is often misunderstood, and these myths can make the process even harder. Let’s clear up a few misconceptions: Myth: “Grief has a timeline.” Truth: Grief is not linear, and there is no “right” amount of time to mourn. Healing happens at your own pace. Myth: “You should be over it by now.” Truth: Loss leaves a lasting imprint, and it’s natural to feel moments of sadness long after the event. Counselling can help you learn how to carry your grief with more ease. Myth: “Grief counselling is only for death-related loss.” Truth: Grief can stem from many types of loss, including divorce, job changes, chronic illness diagnoses, or even the loss of a sense of self. Counselling supports all forms of grief.
How Grief Counselling Can Help You Heal
No two grief journeys are the same, but through counselling, you can: Feel supported and validated: Share your grief in a compassionate, confidential space. Learn coping strategies: I’ll help you develop tools to navigate difficult moments, such as anniversaries or unexpected reminders. Find hope in healing: Grief doesn’t mean forgetting—it means learning to carry your loss with love and grace.
